My first attempt at a basket

Hi,

I was out and about today and saw lots of flint. I didnt want to put it in my pocket because it was stinking so i thought why not have a go at making a basket. Took about 40 minutes with some pruning snips and a swiss army knife. No the best obviously but I am pleased and know that what I learned this time will mean I can make a better one next time. good fun actually.

Looks like a very nice basket!

I suspect it would have been easier if the uprights were the same size as the horizontals, but that's one more basket than I've ever made, so congratulations. The Foxfire books have a section or two on making split oak baskets if they're available over there. Also, you might want to check YouTube.

Well for a first try, I would say you have done a very good job. It is certainly useable. Well done.

Hi all thanks for your kind comments. The amount you learn from making one basket is amazing. This was made without proper preperations, just a spare of the moment thing and it worked for purpose so all good. Next time will be better.

Gorges, I have read lots about basket making which is why i wanted to have a wee go. Youtube is a brilliant resource. What is foxfire?

Cheers
