Silverweed

The cream coloured swollen tuber roots of Silverweed are good roasted. They often grow in sand so are easy to dig up.

Hi, Have you tried the silver weed roots, yourself ?

Apparently people used to eat them during hte times of the Great Potato Famine and around the time of the Clearances here in the Outer HEbrieds but have not tried them myself. We were thinking of as we have loads in our actual garden.

Some say they are edible raw and cooked. Some say nutty flavour and some say bitter when cooked.

Thanks

Hi there,

I found them nutty i suppose. I have tried them both cooked int he embers and raw. If you find them growing in sand they are very easy to harvest.
